But don't stop there, you can also check out other sites that offer specialized searches like the National Sex Offender Registry, the National Criminal Justice Reference Service or the United States Parole Commission. In most cases, only public information will be handed out (so don't expect a list of names of previous victims or anything like that). However, any information can be help so don't be discouraged from making a request.
Online criminal records databases, while far from complete, are getting better. Often, you will find enough information for you to be able to keep your family safe from potential menaces. However, we must stress that if you can't find any criminal records information on a particular person, don't let your guard down. If he or she is behaving in an alarming manner and you are concerned for other people's safety, go to the police for help. You can never be sure, especially when it comes to sex offenders. Be discreet, as you may be wrong after all and you don't want to make false accusations. You certainly don't want to tarnish another person's reputation if he or she is genuinely clean of criminal offenses. Simply ask the advice of your local law enforcement.
